<p>People doing a keto lifestyle often need to supplement with electrolytes, that&#8217;s why we introduced our 4 targeted electrolyte formulas. Unfortunately, there was some confusion as to how people should use them and coming from &#8220;Keto Chow,&#8221; some people thought they were <strong><em>only</em></strong> for people doing keto. Our electrolytes are for everyone!</p>



<p>We are happy to announce that we have rebranded our electrolyte line under the SALTT line. We also took the opportunity to simplify the sizes being offered, change the serving sizes to better reflect how we expect people to use each one and, most importantly: to change the names to better communicate how and why you should use each of the 4.</p>



<p>The actual formulation (the liquid in each bottle) <strong>HAS NOT CHANGED</strong>.</p>

<li><strong>Electrolyte Drops</strong> has been renamed <strong>SALTT Hydrate</strong> &#8211; Balanced electrolytes designed for daily hydration to support peak performance. <strong>Serving size is 1 teaspoon (5mL).</strong></li>



<li><strong>Fasting Drops</strong> has been renamed <strong>SALTT Low-K</strong> &#8211; This formula was designed for those who need high-sodium and low-potassium options. This results in a blend that supports the needs for individuals with POTS, IBS, and more. <strong>Serving size is 1 tablespoon (15mL).</strong></li>



<li><strong>Magnesium Drops</strong> has been renamed <strong>SALTT Relax</strong> &#8211; High-magnesium to support relaxation and improve mood. <strong>Serving size is 1/2 teaspoon (2.5mL).</strong></li>



<li><strong>Daily Minerals</strong> has been renamed <strong>SALTT Minerals</strong> &#8211; Our formula built to replace that cabinet of supplements. Daily electrolyte blend with added vital minerals missing from the typical western diet. <strong>Serving size is 1 teaspoon (5mL) three times daily.</strong></li>

<p>Some of the sizes we used to offer have been discontinued and we are still in the process of rolling out the label change to all of the sizes. </p>

<p>So far as the serving sizes go: some of the old packaging had one serving size (<em>the dropper bottles dispense 1mL per dropper, so we thought it was logical to use a 1mL serving on that size</em>) with other sizes having a different serving size. Our intent was to make it simple for people to calculate the electrolytes with multiple droppers full; but it ended up mistakenly leading people to think they should only use 1 dropper. That&#8217;s fixed now, with each formula using a more reasonable serving size based on what people are actually likely to use for that formula. This change to the serving sizes has led to some confusion when people compare the amount of sodium or potassium on the old label to the new label and (understandably) ask for clarification. We&#8217;d like to re-iterate again that the actual liquid and mineral content has not changed, only the name on the label and the serving sizes. For easy reference, below are the label designs for the old and the new designs.</p>

“SALTT Liquids and Capsules” replace “Keto Chow Electrolytes”


<p>When we introduced the flavored SALTT Electrolyte Drink Mix <a href="https://info.ketochow.xyz/blog/introducing-saltt-electrolyte-drink-mix-by-keto-chow">in December 2023</a>, we also announced that we would be gradually transitioning all of our &#8220;Keto Chow&#8221; Electrolytes over to the SALTT brand&#8211;same products just with different names and a different logo. </p>



<p>(To answer your question &#8220;are you going to keep X around?&#8221;: yes &#8211; same products just with different names and a different logo &#x1f609;). Today we&#8217;re excited to launch our first new SALTT product: Daily Capsules.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What are the SALTT Daily Capsules?</h2>

<p>SALTT Daily Capsules are the Daily Minerals Drops (developed in partnership with Dr. Ken Berry) put into capsule form. That way, you can simply swallow with water and not have to taste the (rather bitter) minerals. </p>



<p>This formula has a lot of potassium, magnesium, and sodium; but it also has other minerals that Dr. Berry recommends people supplement on a daily basis: selenium, chromium, molybdenum, boron, zinc, copper, manganese, and iodine. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How many capsules should I take a day? How does it compare to the liquid Daily Minerals?</h2>

<p>To get the same amount of minerals via capsules as 1 tablespoon of the liquid, you need to take roughly 11 capsules. Let&#8217;s talk physical matter for a second. A full serving of the Keto Chow Daily Minerals (liquid) is 1 tablespoon or 15ml. That 15ml of super-saturated liquid minerals would fill 17 capsules, just to give you a comparison of the volume.</p>



<p>There is a LOT of actual stuff dissolved in that tablespoon. You can easily feel the weight difference of a container of water vs. the same container full of Daily Minerals due to those dissolved minerals, they have MASS. When you dry out the minerals into crystals &#8211; they take up nearly the same amount of volume as they did in the liquid. </p>



<p>We are using the same size capsules for the SALTT Daily capsules as our existing magnesium capsules (known as size 00 they&#8217;re 0.91ml each) &#8211; we could have gone for the larger 000 capsules but those are known as &#8220;horse pills&#8221;. We opted for the smaller, more manageable size. </p>



<p>OK, so we have to use a large quantity of capsules to physically fit the quantity of minerals &#8211; how many should you take each day? That&#8217;s going to be up to <em>you</em>. Dr. Berry recommends 8-12 capsules per day to get the amount of minerals he recommends people supplement. At that dosage, it&#8217;s nearly identical to taking 1 tablespoon of the liquid Daily Minerals. If you prefer less of the liquid per day, then you could use fewer capsules.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How many servings are in each bottle?</h2>



<p>Each bottle has 240 capsules. We decided to make the &#8220;serving size&#8221; on the nutrition panel be 1 capsule because each person will take the quantity of capsules that suits them. That means those 240 capsules may last 60 days, or 21 days, or 35 days. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Capsules price vs. liquid drops price</h2>

<p>The Daily Capsules are more expensive than the Daily Minerals in liquid form. Milligram of minerals to milligram of minerals, the capsules are close to double the price when compared to the liquid form. We were hoping to be able to get them a lot closer but drying, encapsulation, and packaging them mean that the capsules have added expenses. </p>



<p>There&#8217;s no denying it and there isn&#8217;t a way around it. We do still have, and will continue to have, the liquid Keto Chow Daily Minerals (though they will eventually be renamed as the same product just with a different brand logo) that you can continue using if you prefer the lower price point.</p>


Introducing SALTT Daily capsules


<p>Since we launched the SALTT&#x2122; Electrolyte Drink Mix (hereafter &#8220;SALTT&#8221;), we&#8217;ve had quite a few people ask how it compares to the LMNT® electrolyte drink mix (hereafter &#8220;LMNT&#8221;). Let&#8217;s talk about it.</p>

<p>That may seem like a weird way to start a comparison with a competitor, but it&#8217;s how we are. =) We personally know many of the team that founded LMNT and we have used their electrolytes for years. Frankly, it&#8217;s good stuff and if we had not made our own flavored electrolyte drink we would STILL be using it. That being said, we do think our product has some advantages.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Flavor and Taste</h2>

<p>The main difference between SALTT and LMNT is the flavor and the way it tastes. Most people we&#8217;ve had compare the two tell us that SALTT is not as sweet, is not as tart/sour, and is not as salty (in the same volume of water). </p>



<p>You could get both to about the same flavor intensity by using a larger volume of water with LMNT (or less water with SALTT); and consequently, that same volume of water with SALTT would make the flavor even more mild. While there are certain people who like a stronger flavor and stronger salty taste, we designed SALTT to be milder without needing a ton of extra water.</p>

<p>The magnesium in SALTT is included as part of the spray-dried salt water that we use and comes as magnesium chloride. This form of magnesium occurs naturally and is highly bioavailable, meaning that humans can easily absorb and use it (as compared to a poor source like magnesium oxide). Magnesium chloride is water soluble.</p>



<p>LMNT uses magnesium malate, which is also a highly bio-available form of magnesium. It is made in a lab by combining malic acid with elemental magnesium. </p>



<p>Although these two forms are generally considered comparable, SALTT contains significantly more—just shy of three times the amount as LMNT. This makes for a healthier mix of electrolytes and means that the benefits of magnesium are more available to SALTT drinkers, preventing or reducing muscle cramps, and more.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Citric Acid and Malic Acid</h3>

<p>The fruity flavors of SALTT use malic acid, which is the main acid in many fruits. It has a more potent sour taste and is not as controversial as citric acid. (We were surprised at how much better it tastes, as well!)</p>



<p>LMNT uses citric acid in the fruity flavors to improve the taste and increase tartness. Citric acid is somewhat &#8220;controversial&#8221; and there is some discussion as to how different types of citric acid are made and where they come from with some people taking a definitive stance against products that use citric acid.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Sweeteners</h3>

<p>SALTT uses a purified form of stevia called RebD and RebM, which has no contamination from the proteins and other compounds that might be problematic for people with a seasonal ragweed allergy (You can read more about that <a href="https://info.ketochow.xyz/blog/stevia-steviol-glycosides-and-ragweed-oh-my">here</a>.) Pure RebD and RebM also do not have the bitter taste that many people associate with stevia, meaning if you don&#8217;t like regular stevia, you might like the taste of SALTT.</p>



<p>LMNT lists &#8220;stevia leaf extract&#8221; on the ingredients. Unfortunately, we aren&#8217;t able to find any further information about exactly what kind of stevia extract is used.</p>



<p>Both LMNT and SALTT also have an unflavored and unsweetened version available if you want to avoid any sweeteners.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Maltodextrin / Binding Agents</h3>

<p>LMNT uses a small amount of maltodextrin in the flavoring to help bind the flavor into a powdered form.</p>



<p>SALTT does not contain any maltodextrin. We work exceptionally hard to make certain that none of our products have ANY maltodextrin at all, not even a trace. This is extremely difficult to do because maltodextrin is commonly used as a binder and bulking agent so that liquid flavors can be made into a powder. </p>



<p>The manufacturing industry loves maltodextrin, but we don’t want it in our products. Instead, we use acacia gum. It works nearly as well as maltodextrin but also lets fats mix with water (it’s an emulsifier) and even though it’s a fiber that humans can’t digest, your gut bacteria&nbsp;<a href="https://info.ketochow.xyz/blog/acacia-gum-features-and-benefits">turns it into butyrate and other short-chain fats.</a>&nbsp;it’s extremely cool stuff.</p>

<p>We decided to launch this new drink mix for various reasons, let&#8217;s talk about what sets it apart from everything else available.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Taste / Flavor</h2>



<p>Flavor was what started this entire project! Most of the flavored electrolyte powders on the market have an overpowering amount of flavoring, sweetener, and citric acid added to cover<strong> </strong>the saltiness. We will typically see people diluting other electrolytes in 24-64 oz of water because the taste is so strong, that they&#8217;re not very palatable in a regular 16oz water bottle. </p>



<p>We wanted something that would taste great <em>without </em>needing to use a gigantic jug of water, so we optimized our mix and flavors for that regular 16oz bottle. Just tear open a packet and dump it into a regular water bottle, what could be easier?</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Better Mixing</h2>



<p>We wanted to make something that dissolves instantly in water (whether ice cold, room temperature, or even hot if you want to make hot cocoa) and dissolves completely with no sediment&#8211;and that&#8217;s exactly what SALTT does.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Simple Ingredients</h2>



<p>Most flavors of SALTT have 6 simple ingredients: powdered salt, potassium chloride, malic acid (for tartness), purified Stevia (more on that later), and natural flavors that are made into powder using acacia gum. There&#8217;s also cocoa powder in the chocolate flavors.</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>No maltodextrin</strong> &#8211; not even a tiny amount in the flavoring. We&#8217;re extremely proud of this because it&#8217;s surprisingly tough to do in food and supplement manufacturing.</li>



<li><strong>No sugar</strong> &#8211; your body can absorb electrolytes and water without sugar just fine, and if you REALLY insist, you can add some yourself but we&#8217;d recommend against it.</li>



<li><strong>No colors, natural or artificial</strong> &#8211; adding color really isn&#8217;t necessary, and you can&#8217;t even see the color (or lack thereof) if you&#8217;re using an insulated bottle.</li>



<li><strong>No citric acid/ascorbic acid</strong> &#8211; we chose to use malic acid instead, which tastes better and is less controversial.</li>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Allergen-Free Stevia Extracts</h2>



<p>Some time ago, we <a href="https://info.ketochow.xyz/blog/stevia-steviol-glycosides-and-ragweed-oh-my">published a blog post about Stevia and Steviol Glycosides</a>. This sprung from some research we were doing on the sweetener used in SALTT Electrolyte Drink Mix and Keto Chow CORE (same for both!) because some people were starting to make note that seasonal ragweed allergies can be triggered by stevia leaf sweeteners. </p>



<p>That blog post goes into far more detail, but the short version is we are using a purified stevia RebD+RebM mixture manufactured in South Korea (they’re really at the leading edge of most of what’s happening in the stevia industry). The RebD+RebM mixture yields a flavor profile that is far superior to the old stevia RebA you may be familiar with and has nearly the same purity of taste as table sugar according to the manufacturer. </p>



<p>If you’ve had a bad experience with stevia-sweetened products in the past, you might be very surprised by how much you enjoy SALTT Electrolyte Drink Mix. Several of our employees who are avowed “stevia haters” report that they very much like the taste. </p>



<p>If you have a ragweed allergy (or are otherwise sensitive to it), the Glucosylated Stevia RebD+RebM we’re using in SALTT Electrolyte Drink Mix is not likely to be a problem. With any allergy, especially if it’s severe, <strong>be sure you are making safe choices about your health</strong>, but we recommend&nbsp;<a href="https://efsa.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.2903/j.efsa.2022.7066">checking out the study on stevia and ragweed</a>&nbsp;for more information. “The Panel concluded that there is no safety concern for the use of glucosylated steviol glycosides as a new food additive at the proposed use and use levels.”</p>



<p>Importantly: if you do want unsweetened and unflavored, Clean Slate SALTT is exactly that.</p>

<p>Getting sodium, potassium, and magnesium is kinda the entire point of using electrolytes, so why not get the best ones available? Our number one ingredient in SALTT is &#8220;SolarSea Salts AC.&#8221; This is a dried form of our popular &#8220;Fasting Drops&#8221; and provides an excellent source of sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, and trace minerals. </p>



<p>What you won&#8217;t find is heavy metals or microplastics. The magnesium chloride, in particular, dissolves completely and is super easy for humans to absorb&#8211;goodbye muscle cramps!</p>



<p><a href="https://www.ketochow.xyz/products/saltt-electrolyte-drink-mix">SALTT Electrolyte Drink Mix</a> contains 3-3.5 times more magnesium than the next best electrolyte powders we&#8217;ve found, and up to twice the potassium. You&#8217;re also getting 162mg of sulfate, 2277mg of chloride, and additional trace minerals.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Exceptionally Low-Carb</h2>



<p>You&#8217;ll notice on our 30-count bags that there&#8217;s a section telling you exactly how many total carbohydrates there are for each flavor, plus what that number is if you subtract the acacia gum we use to carry the flavor, aka: &#8220;net&#8221; carbs. </p>



<p>The FDA requires rounding on nutrition labels so the total carbs show &#8220;&lt;1g&#8221; for most of the flavors, but what does that actually mean? Is that 0.9g or 0.3g?<strong> </strong> If you are concerned about carbohydrate intake, there&#8217;s a HUGE difference. We tell you the actual numbers so you can make informed decisions. </p>



<p>The great news is that most of the flavors are around 0.61g of total carbs, and 0.01g of non-fiber carbs, the outlier being Cocoa Loco which has enough cocoa powder to give it 0.17g.</p>
