<p>Here&#8217;s the thing: everyone&#8217;s body is different. So while there are general guidelines for how many carbs you should have on keto, the truth is that what works best for one person might not work for another. And that&#8217;s okay! <p>Most people on keto aim to keep their <a href="https://info.ketochow.xyz/blog/what-are-carbs/">carb intake</a> under 20 grams per day. (As opposed to the <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/carbohydrates/art-20045705">average American who eats around 225-325 grams per day</a>!) This helps to keep your body in a state of ketosis, burning fat for energy instead of carbs.</p>



<p><em>But</em> while 20 grams is a good place to start, it can vary a lot. Some people do better with fewer carbs, while others need a bit more to feel their best. Some people are super strict with their carb intake, while others allow themselves a bit more flexibility. Some people focus on <a href="https://youtu.be/vabG3fukpgU">net carbs, while others track total carbs</a>. Some <a href="https://info.ketochow.xyz/blog/why-should-i-track-on-keto-with-what-tracking-app/">track all their macros</a>, some don’t. We could go on and on.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="2-finding-your-sweet-spot">Finding your sweet spot</h2>

<p>The key is to experiment and listen to your body. Start with a lower amount of carbs and see how you feel. If you&#8217;re feeling good, stick with it. If you’re not seeing the progress that you’d like, if you&#8217;re feeling tired or run down, try adding a bit more carbs and see if that helps. </p>



<p>(But if you’re feeling sluggish on keto, it might not be because you need more carbs. There are <a href="https://info.ketochow.xyz/blog/can-keto-make-you-tired/">other possible causes for this</a>—and different solutions.)&nbsp;</p>



<p>And don’t forget that even while you’re limiting carbs, it still matters where they’re coming from! Your body is going to react differently to the carbs in a tomato than it will to the carbs in a store-bought keto bread.</p>
